What motivated you to get started with your weight loss journey

I'm 39 years old and I have been fit most of my life but when I was 36 years old I suffered a heart attack. That is when everything changed for me.

I couldn't do a lot of what I was used to while I was recovering, including lifting weights or exercising. I wasn't eating healthy and I ended having a huge weight gain that spiraled out of control. I gained almost 150lbs after getting out of the hospital in the following year.

I recently found out I'm going to be a father! I want to be there for my kid! I want to be able to play with them without getting winded or needing a rest. I'm doing this for my future! I started at 352.1 lbs and I am currently down to 312 lbs in 2 and 1/2 months! I'm starting to get my energy back!

What’s been the biggest challenge in this process

Honestly, food has always been my kryptonite.

I have completely cut out sugar, bad carbs, bread, pasta—etc., all the things I used to have on a daily basis. No more sugary drinks and soda. Now I drink tons of water. I keep my protein intake high and try to stay in a calorie deficit. I'm also back to working out 3–5 times a week. Seeing the results from working out and eating right has really given me the motivation.

Why did you decide to build a home gym

I decided to build a home gym because with work and just being busy, I felt it was hard just to get myself to the gym. Once there, you have to sit around and wait for people to be done with their workouts, just to be able to get on a machine. I found it was deterring me from wanting to go.

Now I have the luxury of just walking down the stairs and being in my own personal space, with everything that I need without any wait.

I also get to keep the machines that are catered to me and how I want to workout.

How has your experience been with GMWD products (V1 and T6)

I'll be completely honest. I was a bit skeptical at first. Generally budget equipment usually sacrifices somewhere.

Thankfully, all of the GMWD equipment has far surpassed what I thought would be possible for the price point. I am blown away by the weight capacity and the quality of everything I've put together. The instructions were super clear and the packaging everything came in has been great.

What goals are you working toward next

My goal weight is to get down to 225 lbs, which is where I feel comfortable for my height and size. I will be focusing heavy on strength training and building up my muscles to where I used to be.

What advice would you give to someone planning to lose weight

Don’t wait for tomorrow. Get up now and try to do something! It doesn't matter what it is. It doesn't matter how much you can lift. It doesn't matter how far you can walk.

What matters is that you got up and tried something TODAY!

We’re honored to support real people like Joe, who turn setbacks into strength, and home gyms into the foundation for something greater. His story is far from over, and we can’t wait to see what comes next.
