Still Getting Stronger at 60: Frank’s 40+ Year Fitness Journey

Still Getting Stronger at 60: Frank’s 40+ Year Fitness Journey
After more than four decades of training, Frank is still staying active and working toward his next goal—with a home gym that makes it easier to keep moving forward.

It All Started in 1980

Frank's fitness journey

Frank's relationship with fitness started long before home gyms became popular.

Back in 1980, his father took Frank and his brother to a local gym and introduced them to weight training. What started as a family activity eventually became a lifelong habit.

More than 40 years later, Frank is still training.

Now 60, his focus has shifted toward staying strong, healthy, and active for the long run. He's currently working on losing weight while building lean muscle—and he knows that progress takes time.

"I've trained my entire life. At 60 years old, I want to continue being active and healthy and be able to enjoy these years."

— Frank Berardelli

For Frank, fitness has never been about a quick fix. It's something he plans to keep doing for the rest of his life.

The Challenge Wasn't Training. It Was Getting to the Gym.

Over the years, Frank went through periods when he belonged to a commercial gym but found it harder and harder to make the trip.

The 15-minute drive wasn't necessarily a big deal by itself. But when you add a busy schedule, bad weather, crowded equipment, and time spent waiting around, a quick workout could turn into a much bigger time commitment.

Winter was especially tough.

"I would join a gym and, in the winter especially, not want to make the drive because it was cold or raining."

— Frank Berardelli

Frank also had to deal with another challenge that many long-time lifters understand: recovering from surgery.

There were times when he had to step away from training for extended periods and eventually start working his way back from square one.

But he always came back.

The habit of training he'd built over four decades—and the simple desire to feel good and stay healthy—kept him going.

Making Training Easier With a Home Gym

Eventually, Frank decided he was done spending unnecessary time getting to and around the gym.

He wanted to train on his own schedule, without the commute or the crowds.

The home gym gave him exactly that.

Instead of driving across town and hoping the equipment he needed was available, Frank could walk into his own training space and get to work.

"I couldn't justify driving 15 minutes to get there and having to wait for someone to finish using a piece of equipment I needed."

— Frank Berardelli

That convenience made a real difference.

With a home gym, Frank no longer has to work his training schedule around gym hours, traffic, weather, or someone else's workout.

The goal is simple: spend less time getting ready to train and more time actually training.

Why GMWD?

For someone who's been lifting for more than 40 years, Frank knows what he wants from his equipment.

It needs to feel solid. It needs to move well. And it needs to hold up to regular training.

That's what he appreciates about GMWD.

"I absolutely LOVE GMWD products. They are outstanding."

— Frank Berardelli

Frank specifically points to the equipment's smooth range of motion, sturdy construction, and heavy-duty feel. He also appreciates the way the equipment looks in his home gym.

Well-built. Heavy-duty. Great range of motion. And good-looking enough to be part of the space.

For Frank, those details matter because his equipment isn't just something he occasionally uses—it's part of a training routine he's maintained for decades.

At 60, He's Still Working Toward the Next Goal

Frank isn't looking for overnight results.

His current goal is to drop body fat, increase lean body mass, and continue building a healthy, active lifestyle.

And he's realistic about what that takes.

At 60, weight loss doesn't happen as quickly as it might have earlier in life. There are no shortcuts, and Frank has learned to embrace that.

"I've found that weight loss comes slowly now at my age. Being consistent and patient is the only way to do this."

— Frank Berardelli

For Frank, that means staying consistent with his training while also paying attention to nutrition and sleep.

It's not complicated.

It's just not always easy.

And that's where patience comes in.

The Advice He'd Give Anyone Starting a Weight-Loss Journey

Frank's advice is straightforward:

Be consistent. Be patient.

There will be good days and bad days. Progress may slow down. Life may get in the way. And sometimes, you may have to start over.

Frank has experienced all of that himself.

But after more than 40 years of training, he knows that the key is simply to keep going.

"There are no shortcuts. Obviously, you have to eat well and get proper sleep too, but for me overall, it's being consistent and patient."

— Frank Berardelli

A Lifetime of Training—and He's Not Done Yet

Frank started lifting weights with his father and brother in 1980.

Four decades later, training is still part of his life.

The equipment may have changed. His goals may have evolved. And his approach may look different at 60 than it did when he first walked into a gym as a young man.

But one thing hasn't changed:

He still shows up.

Today, his GMWD home gym gives him a convenient place to train, stay active, and continue working toward his goals.

Because for Frank, fitness isn't a phase.

It's a lifelong habit.
